For most of us, what is seen in dreams can not be brought to life. As a matter of fact, most of the time, one can not recall what was seen in their dreams. But that is not the same for the boundary-pushing artist, Sasha Elage known for his dreamy, comfortable, genre-defining art work that blends raw emotion with surreal imaging through flash photography. Elage’s work is the closest people can get to re-experiencing their dreams.

Elage stands out amongst the crowd in the photography world as he does something that would now be looked at as foreign in this space, that is, not using any post production in his photos. When I first heard that, I did not believe it, “how could he produce shots like the Red Horse, or the Pink Swan, without tweaking the color in post,” I thought. Immedietaly, I wanted to learn more about how Elage creates his art, eventually finding out that he uses good old flash photography, but not in the way most would. Elage covers his flash with the specific color he imagines the image in, and takes the shot, creating a dream like look to his photos, instantly standing out due to the mere creativity he has.

After really understanding artists Elage’s work, I took it upon myself to dive even deeper. I wanted more people to learn about his work. I instantly contacted Sasha in hopes to learn more about his creative process, his thoughts on AI, and his work in general.
